Brief history of your character (100-200 word minimum):
Gwen was born to a humble blacksmith and his wife. She came two years after her elder brother, Elyan, and was to be the last they had. At a very young age, Gwen lost her mother to a disease that many had caught and ever since then she has been the mother, learning at a young age how to do basic chores. When she was nearing her tenth birthday, she was moved from a simple kitchen girl to the handmaiden to the Lady Morgana, mostly because of their closeness in age. Throughout the years she formed a very close friendship with her mistress, though did not overstep the mark if she can prevent doing so.

When a new boy arrived in Camelot she was instantly drawn to him. Young Merlin stood up to Arthur, the Prince who she always saw as an arrogant pig. Her feelings for Merlin quickly developed in a crush that was not really meant to be and soon he became one of her best friends. When the handsome Lancelot arrived for a brief time she had the wanted attention of a man and was flattered by this. Not long after Lancelot left, which upset her, her father was executed by his King which hurt her more than ever and changed her world view. The little girl who always believed everyone had good in them was growing into a woman who realised the harsh truth. She was wrong.

When staying with her she saw a new side to the arrogant Prince Arthur and the pair quickly fell in love though they were kept apart by the status they each hold. When she was kidnapped she once again met Lancelot. Clinging to the hope of life, but knowing that was unlikely to happen, she felt her feelings for Lancelot rocket sky high not knowing that her Prince was running to rescue her. In the end she was left heartbroken when Lancelot left. Of course, Arthur had seen the attraction between them and this put them a little more apart.

She had her heart broken again only to be built up. Arthur had been enchanted, falling madly in love with someone far more suited to him. With true love’s kiss she had managed to break the enchantment and save his life. As this relationship started to improve another fell apart. Morgana began to be tempted by her magic and after a spell put everyone to sleep, Morgana was kidnapped and it was unknown what happened to her. Gwen was devastated. Then came another disaster when Camelot was attpacked by a dragon. Gwen was the first person who wasn’t a Knight (or Merlin, of course) to risk her life to help the people of Camelot but she was saved by Arthur. Later, after he arrived from defeating the dragon, she held him close and it appeared this relationship had just gotten stronger.

A year passed by and the Knights began to search for Morgana and Gwen was in a sort of limbo for that duration. She didn’t have her Lady to serve and was just a simple servant. But still her relationship with Arthur grew, but given their status they both had to hide their feelings. They were nearly torn apart when Arthur had to marry another woman for the sake of Camelot but at the last minute he refused to go through with it. When Morgana had a vision of Guinevere taking the throne she got to work at removing Gwen from Arthur. She was nearly burnt at the stake and was only saved when Merlin aged himself and claimed to be behind an enchantment. Not long after, Morgana took to the throne and threw Camelot into chaos. Luckily, Merlin managed to save the day and Gwen rode in with the Knights of Camelot and straight into a kiss from her Prince.

After another year Camelot slowly began to grow only to find them under attack once more. Only during this fight against deadly spirits they lost one of their best knights. The loss of Lancelot greatly upset Gwen and mainly because of her bid for him to keep Arthur safe and to bring him back, which he promised with his life. She took the blame for his death. Not long after this death another rocked Camelot. King Uther died and Arthur was crowned. Things were difficult for a while as he balanced his new title and his love for Gwen and occasionally things did not look good.

However, a few months into his reign he proposed to Gwen which she agreed to without a second thought. When word reached Morgana, however, she began to plot to ensure Gwen never took to the throne. And she succeeded. Morgana brought Lancelot back from the grave, though he was not really Lancelot, and sent him to throw Gwen’s heart from Arthur. To make sure this happened she enchanted a bracelet which Lancelot gave to Gwen and soon she found herself kissing him. After a very heated argument she was banished from Camelot. She left heartbroken and found herself in a small village which was later attacked by Helios and his men. She was taken by him and was treated with a surprising amount of respect though Gwen did hide her true identity. Once she realised that Helios was in league with Morgana she made sure that she could get back to Camelot to warn Arthur but was unable to do so. Morgana, realising that it was Gwen, went after her and put her under an enchantment so she took the form of a deer. At the time Arthur was out hunting with a potential wife and thanks to Merlin narrowly missed hitting Gwen but he could not stop Mithian, who hit her in the side with an arrow. Merlin luckily healed her and she had him warn Arthur of the attack on Camelot which was imminent.

She went straight to Ealdor after this where she stayed with Merlin's mother and was soon reunited with Arthur who had been taken out of Camelot for his own safety by Merlin and the Knights. After helping them claim back Camelot, including being involved in a sword fight with Morgana and watching the loss of Isolde, she was again proposed to by Arthur and she eagerly accepted. Her wedding and coronation followed shortly after and things seemed perfect.

Three years later and peace has remained firm in Camelot. But things slowly unravelled as magic and the other few enemies Camelot had began to rise. Of course, by this point, both Arthur and Guinevere were firmly within their place and gaining more and more confidence in their ability to rule. Together they were strong. Which was why Morgana began to target Gwen more than the others. She even went so far as to capture her and torture her to the point that her free will was completely shattered and Morgana completely took over. Morgana then used Gwen as a puppet to kill Arthur and for a few weeks, remained undetected.

Luckily, Merlin realised and soon had the Queen set free with help from an unaware Arthur and peace was almost regained. But they were unaware that with the failure of that plan Morgana began to plot a war to end it all. And end it all it did. Morgana lost the battle and her life but that wasn’t the only loss. Gwen spent many days in Camelot after being told that her husband was nowhere to be found. Camelot needed a ruler even if it was a ruler who remained distracted. A few days later and she received the news that she had dreaded. The King is dead. Being the only one responsible for Camelot, Gwen had barely any time to grieve. In the three weeks since she was given sole responsibility for the kingdom she has worked hard and relentlessly to build up allies, contacts and protection. Gwen has begun tentative talks about the ban on magic ever since discovering the truth about Merlin though has kept from jumping right in just so she does not seem too fickle. She has boosted morale and focused entirely on the only thing she has left. Camelot.

Brief synopsis of your character's personality (100 word minimum):
Guinevere, or Gwen as she is known as by her close friends, is perhaps one of the kindest people you could meet. She is compassionate, loving and has the patience of a saint in most situations. People can push her, it has happened especially when it comes to nobles, but she always tries her best to remain as calm as possible in any sort of trying situation in that sort of circumstance. What is incredible about her is how that calmness transfers to dire circumstances. Even when faced with an immortal army she didn't crumble but found a way to ensure her survival which would then enable her the opportunity to go out and do something about it and to help Camelot. She is resilient that much is sure and has such a strong need to continue protecting others even if she is putting her own life at risk.

At first she was perhaps one of the shyest girls around. She stumbled over her words and had a habit of saying her true feelings accidentally, becoming flustered and then trying to backtrack only to make the situation worse. As she has grown as a woman and in confidence she has come out of that stage and is very self assured. She has faith in herself and believes in sticking up for what she think is right and good in this world even when others think she should not. Nothing would put her off fighting for a good cause. Now that she has become Queen she finds herself in a far better position to put across her thoughts even if she had originally never thought it would happen.

She tries her best to see the good in everybody but recently has come to find out that not everyone is like that. She has hardened slightly to things around her and is not so easily fooled into thinking someone is trustworthy and a possible friend. She was one of the few who noticed that Agravaine was not entirely the friend to Camelot he claimed to be though never knew the extent until it was too late. He intimidated her and she valued her relationship with Arthur far too much to risk losing it if she accused his uncle of things Arthur refused to believe. Another case of discovering some people are just not good is Morgana. Morgana was her best friend, a sister figure, and someone she highly loved and respected. Once Morgana showed her true colours not only did Gwen feel a deep sense of hurt and betrayal she also felt guilty. Why had she not noticed? She could have potentially helped guide her even if her knowledge of magic was entirely slim. This is certainly a part of Gwen. She carries guilt around with her and always will if she feels she plays a part in something like that.

Despite seeming to have such a sweet nature Gwen is not just a kind girl. She has a strong protective instinct, an animalistic feeling deep within her, and will not think twice about striking if it will save someone. She plunged her sword into a creature to save Merlin, even if that did not stop it completely, and would never refuse to do so in future. She does not see any reason why she cannot take up arms and fight just as a man would just because of her gender and will get involved in any way she can. If she is refused a sword then she will take up her place in the rooms set up for the injured to be treated. She has a lot of knowledge gained from close work with the physician, Gaius, and will never be afraid to get involved.

She also will not take kindly to being threatened. She has been taken by a few people in her life and always fought back, be it physically or vocally. She may get upset in private but would never dream of giving someone the satisfaction of seeing that they had reduced her to tears. She thinks well on her feet and is able to say things she would not normally if she had to, such as lying about her past when she was taken by Helios. She holds her head high when faced with someone like that and would never dream of letting them get what they want from her, be it information or her.

Now that she is Queen, and alone in that position, she has discovered the much needed mask. She hides her true feelings from all but a very select few. She is still gentle, kind and loving, making her an exceptionally fair and just Queen, but the loss of Arthur has hit her hard. She barely lets that show though and would not dare let her control slip. Camelot is all she has left now.

Stats
Age: 28
Appearance (please be sure to include any distinguishing traits that you want other characters to notice, .e.g. scars, eye color, particular jewelry): Guinevere’s complexion makes her stand out from others in Camelot, the darker shade a colour not many villagers have. She has dark curls, almost ringlets and unruly if she does not style it properly which she tends to do most of the time anyway. When working she tends to have most of it pinned up with perhaps a few tendrils loose. She is all of 5’3” so is tiny compared to many people of her age, and is curvy but toned. Her clothing may not be viewed as the most practical given her work, often made of finer material with an embroidered bodice that is often tied tightly, but given her (old) position as Morgana’s hand maiden it can be said she had to look her best. She will change to breeches and a loose top with a belt around the waist if she has to fight, or remove her bodice from her dresses when she has to be involved in helping during a war in the castle.

Now as Queen, she has the ability to dress as a Queen is expected to. She does not go too overboard, she has humble beginnings after all, but she knows her appearance says a lot about Camelot. She favours reds, purples, pinks, blues and whites and often wears clothing she has designed or even made herself. She has the ring bearing the royal seal along with the thumb rings Arthur always used to wear on a chain around her neck and she never takes that off. She also never removes the ring she was given when they promised to be with one another and she now always wears a ring that once belonged to Arthur’s mother which he resized so he can wear it. She has had it carefully restored to the size it was before and proudly wears it.

What skills/abilities does your character have?: She is skilled with clothing and is said to be the best seamstress in Camelot. On top of this she had spent time learning her father's craft, he was a blacksmith, and is rather good at making her own weapons and armour and this also helped with another ability she has. She may not be the best but she is very handy with a sword given she grew up surrounded by them. But nothing special beyond the ability to control and come to decisions for a Kingdom.

Guinevere often felt exhausted at the end of the day. Though that would imply her day seemed to have a beginning, middle and end. She felt fairly certain that it did not at times. She rarely slept and when she did it was not peaceful. At least she was not alone. Oh she felt it but she knew she was not. Leon had been incredibly helpful and her grief was becoming easier to contain. As Queen, Gwen knew that she could not afford to let her emotions show easily on her face. They could not see their Queen crumble. And it was for that reason that she let Gaius talk her into going to bed. It took some time for her to finally fall asleep, as always, given how her mind kept running over the events of the day. The petitions and the treaties to be heard and signed.

And then came the fact that she still hated sleeping alone.

She had a restless sleep and soon had her eyes opening. But what she woke to had not been what she had expected and she quickly stood up. Her sword was not there. It was not beside her as it should be and she could already feel the fear rise up. How could she protect herself? Then came the fact that she was in her nightdress which was very much far from proper in such a public setting. A public setting she did not recognise. Gwen continued to look around as the unsettled feeling coursed through her. This wasn’t home. This wasn’t right. She partly wondered if it could be a dream but dreams never feel this real. She took the few steps down from the open structure and onto fresh grass. Nothing looked familiar.
